Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries
A woman who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed.
The deceased woman, who was 34, was targeted on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 21:00 GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.
The suspect, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham court Monday morning, facing charges for the violent incident.
Originally charged with attempted murder but following the woman's death the charge has been updated to include murder.
Police Response
The force said police personnel will remain around the city centre through Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the accused, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, dark headwear, athletic shoes with a backpack.
Attack Site Details
The knife attack occurred outside the Bullring shopping centre, across from primary access point of New Street railway station.
Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, described paramedic and police activity after completing her shift around 10 PM on Friday.
She described the scene as extremely disorderly, and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion at about 21:00.
"A lot of co-workers use transit services, take the tram... our safety is at risk essentially, in the downtown area."
Ashley Birks, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.
"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.
"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... and to think a totally random act occurred, you know, it's terrible."
