Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, considerable delays are expected to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

Officials had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers should still plan to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as backlogs are cleared.
