Being aware he was destined for Hell, he made contact with the afterlife beforehand to obtain a strong position there. Rosie, who leads Hell’s cannibal community, promised Alastor he would become “the strongest Sinner in Hell” in return for his eternal spirit.
This prompts the question: In what way is Rosie sufficiently strong to raise Alastor above every other Sinner Demons?
“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a larger narrative that encompasses so much, leading into the third season,” the creator states. “Clearly that is a perfect question: How is she so strong? The answer might be various factors, but the revelation is in season 3. I'm very excited for fans to see it.”
It is uncertain how long the audience will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have green-lit seasons 3 and 4, but the creator frequently notes that animation is a slow, lengthy process, and later seasons are undated. Nevertheless, she states holding off on specific information is a crucial aspect of maintaining season 2’s focus where it belongs.
“The challenge of any agreement with infernal beings, or stories that have enigmas, is providing people just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and letting that be satisfying,” she comments. “So I am quite eager.”
Questions Answered in The Next Season
The creator promises that the upcoming season will address the queries followers have been posing, such as why Rosie commanded Alastor to disappear for seven years, which weakened his influence in the infernal realm.
“The entire seven-year span, and the pacts these humans are making, and everything — it's feeding into a larger story,” she reveals.
In the meantime, the origin story episode offers another glimpse into what the main characters of Demonic Sinners looked like as humans, following after seeing Sir Pentious’ Victorian-era human form in the second episode. The creator says that significant consideration was put into these character designs.
“The human versions of these personas hold great significance,” she says. “They vary from looking quite distinct from their infernal version to looking very similar. With Pentious, the first one we see, there was a little bit of a debate within the team between going with something that symbolizes the personality, versus selecting an option that's very time-period accurate. We opted for making something that just seemed like it was him.”
She says the primary controversy over Pentious’ human design was his long hair: “We were like, ‘No one really had long hair of that style in Victorian-era London.’ But simultaneously, we think the outline is extremely crucial, and we also just thought he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he lived in seclusion, so he just allowed his hair to lengthen. So there is always a solution. As we design the human versions of these personas […] it's such a fun thing to investigate and determine. I'm excited for people to view additional of what the human forms look like.”
