The families of young people missing after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are confronting an agonising wait for answers and appealing for information about their loved ones via social media.

The blaze devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Circulated footage show the ceiling catching alight as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.

Authorities have warned that it could take days if not weeks to identify the those who perished of the fire, which resulted in the death of 40 people and injured another 119. A spokesperson noted on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with the process ongoing to name the other six.

In the meantime, loved ones have been using the internet to request clues about their friends who were in attendance that night.

Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
